Admission to Eckley will be free on Saturday, September 24th. Join us between 10AM and 5PM to explore the United States’ best-preserved anthracite mining community. Walking tours will be available.

SPECIAL AUTHOR TALK

Free Day will also feature historian and Coal Region native Mitch Troutman, whose new book The Bootleg Coal Rebellion, recovers the untold story of the Depression-era miners who defied authorities to secure a living. The author talk will include excepts from Troutman’s book, rare footage of bootleg miners from the 1930s, a Q&A session, and signed copies of The Bootleg Coal Rebellion available for purchase. The author talk will begin at 2PM in the Visitors Center auditorium.
