Pennsylvania is home to some of the best trout fishing in the world, with a variety of trout found in state waters. Here in Luzerne County alone, there are more than 90 lakes and 130 streams which is why so fishermen are hooked on this part of Northeast Pennsylvania. 

Here are 7 things about trout fishing in Luzerne County to know before you hit the water:

  • Time to fish: Regular trout season starts statewide on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
  • Size matters: 7 inches is the minimum size for a caught trout.
  • Creel limit: During the regular season, from Opening Day - Labor Day, the daily limit is 5 (combined species). During the extended season (day after Labor Day - February 28/29), the daily limit is 3 (combined species).
  • License: Any angler over the age of 16 is required to have a fishing license. A trout stamp/ permit is also needed to fish for trout.
  • Cost: Rates for a fishing license vary for residents, tourists and age.
