[ARCHIVED] Fall in Luzerne County Checklist

Fall Checklist

Fall comes alive in Northeast Pennsylvania! Between breathtaking foliage, pumpkin patches and fall festivals, there is so much to see and do. To make sure you don’t miss out on the fun, here is our checklist of some of the top things to experience this fall in and near Luzerne County!

1.) See foliage by river, road & trail
Every autumn, Mother Nature goes to work painting Northeastern Pennsylvania in shades of red, yellow and orange. Take in the varying hues of fall as you hike the trails of Ricketts Glen and Frances Slocum State Parks, just two of the many parks across Luzerne County. Paddle down the river on a fall foliage tour with Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe or check out a different section of the winding waterway with Five Mountain Outfitters.   Hop in the car and follow our Fall Foliage Driving Tour to see the seasonal colors and sample local flavor at the stops along the way.

2.) Sip some cider
Fresh apple cider is a fall favorite. Pick your own apple then sip some cider at Brace’s Orchard or Lakeland Orchard and Cidery.  If you prefer apple cider with a twist, head to Colonel Ricketts Hard Cider and sample their creations made with local apples and aged in oak barrels.

3.) Pick a pumpkin & get lost in a maze
Fall means pumpkins. You can find the perfect one at one of the area’s many farms and patches, like Dymond’s Farm Market in Dallas or Roba’s Family Farms. While you’re at Roba’s, test your skills in the 5-acre cornfield maze.

4.) Farm to table
This time of year farmers’ markets in Luzerne County are full of fresh fall produce. From apples and pumpkins to gourds and vibrant autumn flowers, you’re sure to find something for your table.

5.) Get scared
Feel your heart pound as you make your way through one of the area’s hair-raising attractions, like Horror Hall in West Nanticoke. Experience chills and terror during your walk through this local Halloween tradition.

 6.) Get crafty
Whether you prefer your craft (beer) in a glass or prefer crafts to wear or spruce up your home, Luzerne County has you covered. Stop at one of the local breweries on our Beer, Wine & Shine Trail and then get your holiday shopping started at the Luzerne County Community College Craft Festival.

7.) Get Festive
Northeastern Pennsylvania not only loves autumn, but also loves to celebrate the season of pumpkins, apples and falling leaves. Visit our Calendar of Events to enjoy food, crafts and everything fall at one of the area’s many festivals and special events, like the City of Wilkes-Barre's 150th Birthday & Oktoberfest .
