Swing Back to the 1940’s

1940 Swing Dance

Lace up your dancing shoes and jitterbug back to a time when famous faces like Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant graced the silver screen.  For one weekend only, on August 4th and 5th, the 1940’s comes alive on the streets of Eckley Miners Village in Weatherly.

Celebrate the history of this iconic era as you experience a glimpse into life on the Homefront during World War II.  Learn from military re-enactors and historical displays. Shop craft vendors, have some fun with children’s activities and listen to live music. There are even swing dance lessons to get you ready for the big dance!

Saturday evening the party moves to the Freeland Park Pavilion for a swing dance with live music, food and drinks. Tip… anyone dressed in 1940’s era costumes will receive $2.00 off of their ticket to the dance… so dress to impress!

Eckley Miners’ Village is a former coal mining “patch town” and looks much like it did more than 100 years ago. Eckley is dedicated to preserving the history of the area’s coal miners and their families whose hard work helped fuel the nation’s industrial revolution.
