Fall in Luzerne County Checklist

Fall Checklist

Falls comes alive in Northeast Pennsylvania! Between breathtaking foliage, pumpkin patches and autumn events, there is so much to see and do. To make sure you don’t miss out on the fun, here is our checklist of some of the top things to experience this fall in and near Luzerne County!

1.) See foliage by river, rail & trail
Every autumn, Mother Nature goes to work painting Northeastern Pennsylvania in shades of red, yellow and orange.  Take in the varying hues of fall as you hike the trails of Ricketts Glen and Frances Slocum State Parks or paddle down the river on a fall foliage tour with Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe.   Sit back and ride the rails as a historic locomotive from Steamtown takes you on a scenic excursion.

2.) Sip some cider
Fresh apple cider is a fall favorite. Pick your own apple then sip some cider at Brace’s Orchard or Roba Family Orchard.  If you prefer apple cider with a twist, head to Colonel Ricketts Hard Cider Winery and sample their creations made with local apples and aged in oak barrels.

3.) Pick a pumpkin & get lost in a maze
Fall means pumpkins. You can find the perfect one at one of the area’s many farms and patches, like Dymond’s Farm in Dallas or Roba’s Family Farms. While you’re at Roba’s, test your skills in the 5-acre cornfield maze.

4.) Farm to table
This time of year farmers’ markets in Luzerne County are full of fresh fall produce. From apples and pumpkins to gourds and vibrant autumn flowers, you’re sure to find something for your table.

5.) Take in the views

See the ‘big picture’ when it comes to the colorful foliage at the Council Cup Scenic Overlook in Wapwallopen. The spot provides a 30-mile view across the Susquehanna River Valley.

6.) Get scared

Experience chills during a paranormal evening and séance at a visit to the Psychic Theater at the Houdini Museum or feel your heart pound as you make your way through one of the area’s haunted attractions, like Horror Hall in West Nanticoke.

7.) Step back in time
Luzerne County is full of history and this fall you can learn a little of the lesser known facts during the Luzerne County Historical Society’s Downtown Wilkes-Barre Ghost Walks or during its Haunted History events at the Denison & Swetland Houses.

8.) Get Festive

Northeastern Pennsylvania not only loves autumn, but also loves to celebrate the season of pumpkins, apples and falling leaves. Enjoy food, crafts and everything fall at one of the many festivals, such as Falls Edge Fall Festival.

9.) Get crafty

Whether you prefer your craft (beer) in a glass or prefer crafts to wear or spruce up your home, Luzerne County has you covered.  Stop at one of the local breweries on our Beer, Wine & Shine Trail and then get your holiday shopping started at the Arts at Hayfield Homespun Holidays Craft Fair.

10.) Trick-or-Treat

Bring your little ghosts and goblins to Public Square in Downtown Wilkes-Barre on Halloween to collect some treats and show off their costumes.
