[ARCHIVED] Sunny at the Seven Tubs

Sunny at Seven Tubs

Hi! It’s me Sunny! When Mom said we were going to The Tubs I wanted to run the other way! What dog wants a bath in the tub… no thank you! Turns out we weren’t going anywhere that involves soap. We were heading to hike a trail at a place called the Seven Tubs. It was a quick drive to get there, just a few minutes from Downtown Wilkes-Barre and right near Interstate 81 and the Turnpike. The whole Seven Tubs Nature area covers about 500-acres here in Luzerne County.
Before we started our hike, we stopped on the footbridge over the stream. What a view! From there you can see the creek as it carves its way down the mountain and through the interesting rock formations. Glaciers moving in and out of Northeast Pennsylvania helped influence the Tubs area thousands of years ago (scientists believe the last glacier stopped about halfway between Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton before melting 11,000 years ago).

While the glaciers are long gone, cool sights still line the trail from the waterfalls and stream flowing through gorges and canyons in the rocks that really do look like pools or tubs among the beautiful forest scenery. There was so much for me to check out that it felt like a quick hike (Mom said it is just about two miles to do the full loop trail). I guess I had a little too much fun because Mom made me get in a real tub when we got home…with soap…
