[ARCHIVED] Ice Hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park

Hikers in front of frozen waterfall

The waterfalls rushing down the mountain at Ricketts Glen State Park create an incredible site for warm weather hikers. When temperatures drop, the winter brings the roaring water to a standstill creating magnificent ice formations. But the frozen wonderland isn’t open to everyone. For safety reasons, the Park closes the Falls Trail to everyone except experienced hikers with the proper equipment. That’s where the expert guides at Valley to Summit come in.

Valley to Summit outfits hikers with the proper gear, from crampons to helmets, and takes them on a full-day or half-day excursion. Both trips take hikers past the frozen waterfalls, including Ganoga Falls, the Park’s tallest at 94-feet. In addition to the falls, hikers pass the cliff walls covered in icicles and frozen formations, which along with the winter waterfalls create unexpected sights and unforgettable photographs.

No prior experience is necessary for the hikes which happen every weekend during the winter (weather permitting), but you must book in advance.
